Lazy Summer Days

Dear Reader: I am re-publishing this short
piece I wrote last summer. I hope you enjoy it...

I write this post from my rambling front porch in small-town America.

The afternoon winds down and I spend it lazing on my wicker rocking chair, my feet propped up on the edge of the porch.
The temperature is a perfectly pleasant 78 degrees.
The sky pale blue laced with filmy ribbons of white.
In two days summer will officially arrive.
And I am in hog heaven.

This is my season, folks.
The three months when I revel and roll and rake in the pleasure.
The pleasure of sunbathing and capris and my daisy patch and ice tea.
I drink in every moment.

This year, in the Northwest, there was a clear threat summer might not arrive.
We've still got the portable heaters on in the house in the evenings and even during some days.
Cold and rainy days have been followed by more cold and rainy days.

After thirty years of living here I have adjusted in many ways to this clime.
But when June arrives, I expect the weatherman to pay up.
With some warm weather and sunshine.

So I've struggled a bit this year with the lack of summer and sun.
Finally I just made peace with the clouds.
Not much I can do to shoo them away anyway.

So no more hissy fits when I wake up in the morning to find the sun obscured once again.
And when a day arrives like today - when the sun does show up in all its glory - I treasure every moment.

I know how fortunate I am.
I realize others in the world are facing disastrous weather.
I try to be grateful and send up a little prayer for them.

I have so much.

You make me crave the sun. We have just gone into winter here in Australia. I could just picture you in the rocking chair, staring at the blue sky sipping your iced tea. Your writing is really exquisite you know. Have a great, great summer Jlo. When can we get to see another video - you were hilarious in your last one!!!!

Oh, Lilly,
What a wonderful supporter you are! You always make me feel like a million dollars.
I so hope we get to meet someday.
I will soak up the sun for you and send it in my thoughts across the ocean.
I will give serious thought to another video.
Or funny thought, as the case may be.
Take care, my friend.

Oh, I'm so glad you finally got some sun! This is a beautiful post. I love the line about making the weatherman pay up! ;-)

I feel the same way about winter. Here in TX, cold days are rare. Maybe we need to work out an exchange program!

There is nothing like a perfect summer day!! I live in DC, where it is hot and humid A LOT but even here, I was walking around the national mall on a sunny unshady and piercing hot day and LOVING the way it felt on my arms :) I think we don't take time to think about how some of the most simple wonderful pick me ups are just given to us in such simple ways!

AHH!
I remember those cold days when I lived in Washington State! Always waiting for summer to finally begin. It seemed that July 4th was the actual start of summer there!

I have the opposite where I live now -HOT, HOT,HOT - and humid!
I love the heat and summer is usually my favorite time of the year. To hear the birds chirping in the morning and the sound of lawnmowers with the smell of fresh cut grass...nothing like it!

I pray that you get some sun on your face and that you will be able to enjoy the peaceful days of your summer.
Thank you for your warm, kind words that you wrote to me the other day - I appreciate your support and friendship so much.

Blessings to you my friend!
Kymber

Wonderful and inspiring post. It really make me feel contented with what I have. Be flexible and always adjust ourselves in any given situation. Be happy and it reminds me that you are in control of yourself. Action speaks louder.
